Sonnet No. 9

(written for Lex Paulson)

Surely best of human mind lies inside
Instinctive grind finding there some secret force
Of life's incredible continuous course:
Firmly setting curious footsteps, searching
Wide and worthy concepts: filled with birth's innate
Genius; as new Ulysses travels many roads
Opens many doors, long closed, springing wide
Following evolution's tide; asking knowledge
Dig profoundly, shaking worlds, too worldly;
Lifting, shifting, heavy cultures : uncov'ring
Untold treasures for futures; voicing wisdom's words :
Teaching new philosophy: always rising
From molten ashes of religious crisis':
Bringing ways of helping man lead better lives.
