INTERPRETATIONS & METAMORPHOSIS
(for Sappho)

"Eros, you burn us", Sappho's lines, ring so clear,
sublime chimes, salvaged, of love's lust: "Convulsed, greener
than grass" - paint pictures keener by far, than any
artist, before, or after her: simple words tease,
tantalize minds, ancient worlds drift, lift modern man's
aching spirit upwards, bridging gaps of cent'ries:
ignoring time's lapse: fertile fugues lure yearning
spirits, strumming awesome music maps, lyrical
harmonies, spill sap, fill laps, as love's passionate
darts, sting hearts: intimate, infinite, footfall sprouts
spring flowers heard beneath feet: spread carpets of white
trefoil : would that I could bring like poems as gift,
honoring name and fame, kindling fiery flame:
sweet muse of song and lute to you these lines I write.
